What licenses and registrations do I need to start a motorcycle apparel and accessories vendor in Sikeston, MO?

Jaime wrote: “I sell as a peddler at rallies, fairs, and events. I sell motorcycle accessories, clothing, novelty items, and jewelry.”

Hi Jaime, Twizted, ETC sounds like a promising venture. Nothing beats the clink of a customer trying on a heavy silver ring while engines rumble in the distance and a friend shouts that they need one too. Since your goals are to protect your personal assets, limit exposure from sales, clients, employees, or debt and look more credible to customers and banks, the LLC sits at the center of this plan. Below we walk through the three things every new business in Missouri sorts out (structure, tax IDs, and licenses) and then sum it all up.

Selling at rallies means your shop is a tent that moves with the crowd, and each stop can come with its own rules. In Missouri you owe sales tax on what you sell, so keep a sales tax account in good order and carry records of each event. Many cities and event organizers also ask peddlers for a temporary or itinerant vendor license, plus proof of insurance, before they give you a spot, so ask early for each rally. Keep an inventory log, since stock that travels is stock that gets lost, and check any patches or novelty items for trademarked logos. An LLC in Sikeston keeps a slip at your booth from reaching your personal assets.

What Twizted, ETC needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC keeps business debts and lawsuits separate from your personal home and savings. If a necklace causes a skin reaction and the buyer sues, a limited liability company stands between that claim and your own savings. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it.
  2. DBA (doing business as) registration – Most banks will not open an account or deposit checks made out to "Twizted, ETC" until the name is registered to you, either as a DBA or as the exact name of your LLC.
  3. EIN (federal tax ID number) – Think of the EIN as a Social Security number for the business: banks, suppliers, and clients who send you tax forms will all ask for it.
  4. Missouri sales tax permit (seller's permit) – You will be selling taxable goods, so register to collect sales tax before your first sale. It also lets you buy inventory for resale without paying tax on it.
  5. Business license – Governments license businesses so they can collect a modest tax, usually based on gross receipts or a flat yearly amount, and keep inspectors checking safety: exits, fire extinguishers, and how many people a space can hold. Plan on one for Twizted, ETC in Sikeston.
  6. Temporary vendor permit – Rallies, fairs, and festivals usually require a vendor or peddler permit for each event or location.
  7. Jewelry and metal labeling – Selling items described as gold or silver means labeling them honestly, and some states have extra rules for precious metals.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a motorcycle apparel and accessories vendor it is NAICS 454390 (Other Direct Selling Establishments). That makes 7 items on your list.

Tip: Keep a battery-powered card reader and a printed list of each event's sales tax situation, since rules change from one town to the next.

To recap: Twizted, ETC in Sikeston, MO needs an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, a sales tax permit, a business license, temporary vendor permit, and jewelry and metal labeling. Handle these early and the business starts on solid ground.

I need advice on business insurance, finding investors, a website and advertising for my record label. Does the LLC service include the state fee and an operating agreement?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

For a record label, an LLC is the right base. You handle artists' contracts, royalties and releases, and the LLC separates any dispute from your personal assets. The state's filing charge is shown apart from our service fee on the order page, and the operating agreement is prepared with your LLC, so your bank can open the account.

• Insurance: ask an insurance agent about general liability and media liability for a label, plus coverage for equipment.
• Investors: they usually want a formed LLC, an operating agreement and clean books first, then a clear plan for how their money is used.
• Website and advertising: register the name and open the bank account before you spend on promotion.

A surety bond is not what you need. Insurance protects you from claims, while bonds guarantee performance in certain regulated trades.

Do I need an LLC and a tax ID if my items are not taxable in my state? I also need to register a business at an address in Georgia.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Yes, an LLC still makes sense even when your products are not taxable. Taxability is only about sales tax, while the LLC is about protecting your personal assets from product and customer claims, and about credibility. With investors in mind, a formal company is what they will want to see.

On the tax ID, you still need an EIN for banking and federal taxes, since that is separate from sales tax. A seller's permit may not be needed if everything you sell is exempt, but many suppliers and marketplaces still ask for one, so check with them. Health and beauty products can be taxable in other places, so check where you sell.

For the Georgia address, I cannot supply an office location. Register the business at the real place where you operate, or use a registered agent's address for state papers. A local business license depends on that location.

I live in New York and want to start a mobile petting zoo. I also want to sell gift baskets by taking the order and having a company ship it. What do I need, and can I charge sales tax?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

A mobile petting zoo carries real risk, since children and animals mix and a bite or a fall could lead to a claim. An LLC is the proper vehicle, because it separates that exposure from your personal assets, and it can bring in investors. A foreign owner is fine for an LLC.

• Petting zoo: animal exhibits are regulated, so expect animal health paperwork, permits for events, and liability insurance that venues will ask for.
• Business license, locally, plus approvals for each event location.
• EIN, for banking and taxes.

For the gift baskets, to charge sales tax you need a seller's permit, which in New York is registered as a certificate of authority. Even if you never touch the product or the money, if you take the order and your company is the seller, you generally must be registered to collect tax. If the other company is the seller of record, it may handle that, so clarify who sells.

How long does it take to get a reseller's permit in New York with expedited service? I do not have a certificate of authority for my LLC. I also have questions about zoning for a home inspection business.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

In New York, the sales tax registration is called a certificate of authority, and a reseller's permit is built on it, so you do need one for your LLC. We can file it with expedited handling, which moves faster than standard processing, but I cannot promise a specific number of days because timing depends on the application.

Home inspection is a service, so the permit matters mainly if you also sell products or tools that are taxable. Your LLC fits the business well: inspectors face claims when something is missed, and the LLC separates those from your personal assets.

• Zoning: a home office is usually allowed, but you do not need a vote from the town council in most cases. Ask locally whether a home occupation approval applies.
• Professional license: home inspectors are licensed in many places, so confirm before you take clients.

File the certificate of authority well before your first sale, since New York asks that you register in advance.

What license do I need to buy seafood in Louisiana, transport it to Tennessee and sell it to restaurants and the public, and do I need a wholesale license?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Form an LLC before anything else. Moving fresh shrimp and other seafood across state lines involves spoilage, illness and vehicle risks, and the LLC protects your personal assets while showing restaurants that they are dealing with an established company. A foreign owner can hold an LLC, too.

• EIN, for the account, payroll and supplier accounts.
• Seller's permit: it works as your wholesale and resale registration, so you can buy without tax and sell with tax. You may need one wherever you sell.
• Seafood dealer permit: seafood is regulated at each step, including buying, cold storage and delivery, so ask where your product is sourced and sold.
• Business license, locally.

Whether you open a fish market or a restaurant, each needs its own food permits and inspections.
